Heidi Leianuenue Bornhorst, a truly amazing and inspiring woman.

Heidi is a Certified Arborist, Horticulturist, Landscape Designer (specializing in practical long term maintenance), she is an expert in and supports growing Native Hawaiian plants, sustainable foods grown in Hawaii, plus she is a Hawaii-Style Xeriscape Gardens designer, consultant, aquaponics specialist, public speaker and Garden writer.

Heidi has worked at the Hale Koa Hotel, Honolulu Botanic Gardens, National Tropical Botanical garden on Kaua’i, Lyon Arboretum, Honolulu Zoo and U.H. Manoa, on Hawaiian landscape maintenance and design projects.

She is the O’ahu Coordinator for the Breadfruit Institute helping with `Ulu tree Distribution, Horticulture, proper Tree trimming, and long-term care.

Heidi is a founding partner of the Mangoes at the Moana annual festival, where she speaks about caring for and proper pruning and planting of mango trees, a judge in the Best Mango tasting contest and Mango recipe contest. Our goal: A fruit tree in every Hawaii Garden!

Heidi got her start as an Apprentice Gardener at the National Tropical Botanical Garden, and has a B.S. and M.S. from UH Manoa.

Heidi is the author of “Growing Native Hawaiian Plants”, and she writes the Hawai’i Gardens column for the Honolulu Star Advertiser.

She was the host and Garden expert on ‘the Morning Garden’ early morning KITV.

Heidi is a noted (and Lippy/ knowledgeable) Public speaker, expert tour guide, and Hike leader.

She is a pretty good photographer, always polishing her skills and learning new things, like iPhone photography, while still using a “real” camera. And she is a surfer!
